The Ends of The Earth

MEXICO- Since March 2001, SLBC has partnered with Gloria Al Padre (Glory to the Father) or "GAP" as the gringos call it!  GAP’s main purpose is to link up churches and other volunteers with mission projects in Mexico-including construction, agricultural support and providing health and spiritual education.  Thirty-three (33) groups from our church have gone to Mexico in the last 10 years to support and work with GAP in Aldama, Chihuahua and the Copper Canyon area.  Youth groups have gone twice to the mountains. Construction has included building medical clinics, hospitals, churches and parsonages.  Renovations have also been done to several churches in Chihuahua.   Team members have taught classes at the University, provided medical and dental care, and led a drug and alcohol abuse program.   VBS, soccer clinics, and visits to local schools for hygiene teaching have also been a part of our ministry. Contact Jimmie Carroll for more information or visit the GAP website at www.gloriaalpadre.org

                                                     NEXT TRIP:  APRIL 21-27, 2012

Join us as we continue our partnership with Gloria Al Padre (GAP) Ministries!  We'll travel (by van) to Chihuahua, Mexico to begin construction work on a new church.  Lots of opportunities to help!  All expenses covered - no cost.  Passport required. Contact Jimmie Carroll for further info or to sign-up!

BULGARIA- Through missionaries Paul and Judy Ridgway (Bulgarian Child, Inc), our church helps provide food, medical care, clothing and education to orphans in Bulgaria.  In the last 4 years, we have sent three 40’ containers of equipment, food, furniture, washers, clothing, etc to these kids.  There are 20,000-30,000 orphans in Bulgaria (a country the size of Tennessee), and sadly, the majority of these children are placed in orphanages at a young age (often at birth) and forgotten.    SLBC sent teams in 2007, 2008 and 2009 to distribute items from the containers, put shoes on the children, and help spread the Gospel to them through our love and attention.

In June 2011, Paul and Judy opened the Training and Transitional Center for orphans aging out of the system.  They saw a great need for these children to have a means of supporting themselves and developing the life skills necessary to live outside an orphanage.  We look forward to continuing our partnership with them in their efforts to continue caring for those in orphanages as well as those aging out.

AFRICA- Last year, SLBC and Bucker International (www.buckner.org)  partnered to work with children in Kenya, most of whom are newly orphaned and are either in transition to a foster family or with a foster family already.   A team of 22 church members travelled to Busia, Kenya and participated in a weeklong sports and recreation camp with the children.  Everyone enjoyed Bible studies, sports, recreation, food, fun and fellowship!

GREECE- In the summer of 2010, a team of 11 had the opportunity to minister to Albanian and Greek children during a week long VBS held at the 2nd Greek Evangelical Church in Athens.  The team also partnered with Bob and Janice Newell and PORTA ministries, participating in "English as a Second Language" classes for the Albanian population.  In the evenings, the group was at the Youth Center enjoying recreation and participating in a devotional/Bible study with the kids.

In June 2011, a team of 37 returned to Greece to continue the Kingdom work begun the previous year.  The group participated in VBS’s at three Evangelical Churches in Athens, Piraeus and Volos, Greece and partnered with the ministries of New Zoi (New Life), Helping Hands, and PORTA.  Ministries included participating in Homeless ministry—providing lunch and a Bible study,  attending “English as a Second Language” classes at PORTA,  working at Helping Hands Ministries serving meals, working with the women’s ministry and distributing food and clothing.   Several team members spent time with Neo Zoi (New Life)
ministries. This group works with women caught in human trafficking and prostitution.

The team also visited Mar’s Hill, also known as the Areopagus (Acts 17:16-34), and Ancient Corinth (Acts 18:1-17).  This was an amazing blessing to have the opportunity to actually “walk where Paul walked”.

INDIA-Missionaries Regina and Sudheer (www.impactcommunityindia.org) work in the Southeastern region of India ministering to the Dalits, a group of people traditionally regarded as Untouchables-people tainted by their birth into a caste system that deems them impure and less than human.  We were blessed to have recently had handmade purses available that Regina had taught these women to sew.  Our (incredible, as usual!) congregation purchased  all 106 of the purses we received!!  Regina sent a note explaining that 10 bags  provide LUNCH for one family of four for a whole year!  Amazing!!  We look forward to increasing our partnership and working more with Regina and Sudheer! Contact:  Cynthia Watts  (281.275.6528 or )

ARGENTINA- In August 2009, SLBC initiated a partnership with missionaries in Corrientes, Argentina to assist in reaching the Criollo people for our Lord.  The native Argentine Criollos are an unreached people living mainly in the northern provinces of Argentina and number some 1.5 million.  The missionaries have met with significant success in reaching women and children of the Criollo community, but creating bonds with the men has proven more challenging.  This trip was successful in helping build greater trust amongst the men, providing an opportunity for the missionaries to continue their work bringing Christ to these families.
